Common Roots

A fifth generation Oklahoman raised by hard working parents, Steve Russell has always excelled from a strong work ethic, commitment to his faith and family as well as a responsibility to lead. In high school, Steve was a leader in ‘Evangelism Explosion’ and took it upon himself to go door-to-door sharing his testimony. Graduating from Del City High, Steve was president of his senior class and voted most likely to succeed. Steve’s academic success earned him a full four-year Army Scholarship to Ouachita Baptist University where he earned his bachelor’s degree and was the top cadet in his class. More important, Steve met Cindy while in college, and they have now been married 28 years and have raised five children.

Common Sense

During his term in the Oklahoma State Senate from 2008-12 Steve authored landmark legislation that provided full state tax exemption to Oklahoma’s serving soldiers, advanced and strengthened the 2nd Amendment, fought human trafficking and created adoption reform. Russell received recognition from numerous Oklahoma associations for steadfastly defending the Constitution, advancing the values of our free market, and fighting against irresponsible, growing government. Steve was not afraid to stand alone on the issues that keep people free and protect our rights and property.

Uncommon Work Ethic

Even after a successful military career and a successful term as a state senator, in 2012, Steve chose not to run for reelection to create his small rifle manufacturing business, Two River Arms, and to promote his book “We Got Him! A Memoir of the Hunt and Capture of Saddam Hussein,” a work which has drawn critical praise from the New York Journal of Books and the Wall Street Journal.

Two Rivers firearms have been recognized as some of the highest quality, endorsed by renown firearms personalities, and they have been featured in television and film. As a speaker and author, Russell has spoken in hundreds of cities across the United States and in foreign countries inspiring audiences with his story, while raising money and awareness for critical charities such as the Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls Clubs, the Salvation Army, crisis pregnancy centers, private schools and for returning veterans.

Uncommon Courage

Steve’s display of courage does not just begin with his well-known military service. After nearly dying at birth, Steve had several brushes with death as a child including surviving a ruptured appendix and a tornado that devastated his grandfather’s home. But Steve’s courage was most displayed during his 21 years of service to our country. Graduating from some of the toughest training the Army had to offer, Steve earned his airborne wings and the coveted US Army Ranger qualification. He deployed operationally to Kosovo, Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq. Steve led troops at every level from platoon to a combat task force of a thousand soldiers with his unit earning the Valorous Unit Award for its role in the hunt and capture of Saddam Hussein. Russell himself is highly decorated with awards such as the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star for Valor with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Combat Infantry Badge.

Steve Russell was a member of the U.S. Army.  Use of this military rank, job titles, and photographs in uniform does not imply endorsement by the Department of the Army or the Department of Defense.
