How National Quality Culture Drives Industrial Growth | QA Consult CEO Insights (2025)

A powerful message from the CEO of QA Consult, Johnson Opoku-Boateng, has ignited a crucial conversation about the future of Ghana's industrial growth. He boldly asserts that a strong national quality culture is the key to unlocking the country's full industrial potential.

During his address at the Quality Summit and QA Consult's 10th anniversary celebration, Opoku-Boateng emphasized the critical role of government policies, regulations, and enforcement in shaping a progressive environment. He highlighted the need for a unified approach to quality and trust, which he believes is currently lacking due to weaknesses in enforcement and collaboration between key stakeholders.

"While we've made progress, persistent challenges slow us down. We must move beyond compliance checklists and foster a mindset of quality within our institutions and enterprises," he said.

Opoku-Boateng stressed the importance of a shared responsibility, with the state providing an enabling environment and industry embedding quality into every aspect of their operations. He believes this collaborative approach is essential for Ghana to compete on a global scale.

The event, themed 'Advancing Industrial Excellence through Quality and Trust', brought together regulators, business leaders, academics, and development partners. It served as a platform to discuss the importance of quality and standards in driving industrial growth and sustainability.

"The summit aims to position quality as the foundation for our industrial future. It's time we recognize the value of quality assurance and its role in transforming our nation," Opoku-Boateng added.

But here's where it gets controversial: Opoku-Boateng highlighted the challenges faced by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in meeting quality standards. He believes the lack of consistent enforcement and burdensome regulations often deter SMEs from seeking certification and adopting higher standards.

"We must find ways to support and guide our SMEs. They are the backbone of our economy, and their success is crucial for our nation's growth," he emphasized.

The CEO's revelations about QA Consult's journey, starting with limited resources but a strong determination, inspired the audience. He shared how the company has grown to become a respected name in quality consultancy, working with renowned brands like Unilever and Ghacem.

Opoku-Boateng expressed his gratitude to the event sponsors for their support and urged stakeholders to view the summit as a movement towards industrial excellence.

Special guest George Adjei, Director-General of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), acknowledged the need for practical guidance for SMEs and announced GSA's partnership with QA Consult to address this gap. He also highlighted the authority's efforts to modernize testing laboratories and digitize certification services, crucial steps towards harmonizing national standards with international requirements.

Ms. Paulina Addy, Director of the Women in Agricultural Development Directorate, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, emphasized the importance of quality assurance in the agricultural sector. She urged all players to view quality as an investment with positive returns.

The Quality Summit aims to achieve clear outcomes, including greater national recognition of quality, actionable policy proposals, and stronger collaboration between regulators, academia, and industry.

What are your thoughts on the role of quality culture in industrial growth? Do you think Ghana is on the right track with these initiatives? We'd love to hear your opinions in the comments!
